5. Structure of section and valuation

5.1 Sections

At least 8 sections for the CLASS O, at least 1 section of which from Model 2.

At least 8 sections for the CLASS S, at least 1 section of which from Model 2.

At least 8 sections for the CLASS M, at least 1 section of which from Model 2.

At least 8 sections for the CLASS PM, at least 1 section of which from Model 2.

At least 8 sections for the CLASS P, at least 1 section of which from Model 2.

5.2 Structure of the sections

5.2.1     The gates in the individual sections are characterized by colours. The gates are marked in the driving direction, on the left post and /or right post as follows:

·        Vehicle class O – blue

·        Vehicle class S – white

·        Vehicle class M – yellow

·        Vehicle class PM – black

·        Vehicle class P – red

5.2.2    Model 1

The section begins with the sign "start" and ends with the sign "end".

Width of the gates – min. of  3.00 m (horizontally measured)

Minimum distance of the limitation band  - 5,00m from band to band

Gate post height / limitation band height - min. 1.00 m above the ground

Number of gates - maximum of 6 gates

5.2.3    Model 2

The section begins with the sign "start" and ends with the sign "end".

The section is marked with progress signs of deminishing value.

5.3  Driving regulations

5.3.1        A vehicle must be driven forwards into the section. All the gates in a section must be driven forwards from the start of a section through to the end.

5.3.2        Further changes to the regulations may be given during the drivers briefing.

5.3.3        Participants must follow all instructions during the event given by the Trial Management and the Marshals.

5.3.4        It is only permitted for one co-driver to be in the vehicle in the sections. During the driving of a section the co-driver may perform different operations .

5.3.5        The number of forward attempts over a particular obstacle is limited to three.  That means, after three futile attempts to overcome the obstacle , the section is terminated for that participant. Penalty points for “section partly driven” will then be awarded and for “ not completed gates” for the gates remaining (when the back bumper is not through a gate).

5.3.6        Section “START” and “END” are clearly marked. The start in each section will begin with clear indications from the marshals on that section.  The section is completed when the  "end" – sign is passed with the whole vehicle.  The same applies to the gates within the section – they are cleared when the whole vehicle has passed; back bumper rule.

5.4  Scoring System

The assignment of penalty points is made by the responsible Marshals.  Discrepancies in the scoring must be clarified directly on the spot.  In any uncertainty the marshal can consult the  Trial Manager.  Protests against the decision  by the marshals are not permitted.

5.4.1.      Penalty Points

Penalty points for the sections – Model 1

The marshals will note on the score sheets how the vehicle performs in a section. The score sheets are the responsibility of the participant between the sections.

 -  Penalty Points         =          0 - perfect route

 -  Penalty Points         =          6/5/4/3/2/1 – Reversing of vehicles in groups O,S & M in accordance with the attached list

 -  Penalty Points         =          3 – Reversing of vehicles in groups PM & P (Definition of reversing: Each reversing motion of the vehicle or wheels, whether driven, slipping, sliding or rolling)

 -  Penalty Points         =          3 - stall

 -  Penalty Points         =        10 – touching a gate post

 -  Penalty Points         =        30 - for each gate that was not completely driven through

 -  Penalty Points         =        30 – Knocking down / breaking  a gate post – A gate is classed as knocked down when it has two points of contact with the ground

 -  Penalty Points         =          30 + 70 = 100  For the second post which is knocked down and termination of the section – section partly driven (as under the points 1-10)

 - Penalty Points          =          400 – For not entering a section / refusal.

 - Penalty Points          =          70        For one of the points 1.  - 10. below  . The section is immediately terminated.

  1. A 2nd Post is driven / knocked down
  2. The limitation band is touched.
  3. A part of the wheel or the body of the vehicle is over or under the limitation band even without touching  or ripping it.
  4. A part of the wheel or the body of the vehicle enters a gate in the wrong order or in the wrong direction.
  5. A part of the wheel or the vehicle enters a gate, which is not a part of the correct route.
  6. Outside assistance .
  7. More than 3  forward attempts at an individual obstacle (after the third unsuccessful attempt the participant must leave  the section ).
  8. Drivers and/or co-drivers  do not have buckled seat belts or are without helmets, even if only for a short time. Helmets and seat belts may not be removed, even when a section is terminated, until the vehicle has left the section, unless otherwise instructed by the Marshall’s .
  9. Driver or co-drivers touch a gate post or limitation band / post.
  10. The time limit of 4 minutes is exceeded.

If one of the above points 1-10 applies then the section is terminated and judged as “ partly driven”. The driver must then exit the section with his vehicle in the shortest and least damaging way and as quickly as possible as per the instructions from the marshals.

Explanation of the penalty point system  - MODEL 2

PENALTY POINTS  = 100/70/50/30/0

If a section in the model 2 catogary is not completed then the penalty points will be awarded depending on which zone the vehicle has reached and passed with the rear of the vehicle. The additional penalty points will then be added as in model 1. eg Reverse etc etc. Three forward attempts are allowed (from the start sign if so desired) passing through gates that have already been driven. The last reached position will be rated even if  an earlier attempt gained more ground. The driver can , by the means of a clear signal terminate the section at his request. Further penalties will not be added after that. eg. Reverse.
